We are a Community Resource for you!

The "Sanctuary" is our concept for providing a nurturing environment for animals in need.

Our facility is home to most of our cats and dogs, although some reside in foster homes initially. This helps us to learn about their behavioral traits and make "right match" placements.

Our animals are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, treated for fleas and parasites and tested for heartworm.  This means that any animal adopted from The Sanctuary at Haafsville is ready to start a new life in your home.

We are a volunteer-based organization and are very conservative financially which allows us to provide exceptional care to our resident animals.  We are funded by our ongoing fundraising efforts, donations and our partnerships. Visit our Thank You page to see some of great organizations that have helped us in our first 10 years.

Animal Welfare Services

  • Animal Adoptions: We offer a mix of ages and breeds of cats and dogs.
  • Seniors Program: We offer flexible programs for seniors adopting animals.
  • Foster Program: Visit our FOSTER page to learn more.
  • Long-Term Stay: Sometimes, we become permanant housing for a few animals that are never adopted.  We keep those animals safe and loved.
  • Animal Safety: We provide Animal Control services for 17 local municipalities.
  • Shelter Partnerships: We pull animals from many high-kill shelters saving hundreds of lives.
  • Educational Opportunities: We participate and offer several programs for schools and organizations such as our PAWS program.  Visit our FAQ's to learn more.

How We Enrich Peoples' Lives

We provide services to enrich peoples' lives which include:

  • Community Service hours for volunteers.
  • Programs for Special Needs individuals.
  • Cultivate an atmosphere of gratitute and respect for Volunteers.
  • A teamwork approach so volunteers are not overwhelmed and can grow.
  • Provide a welcoming sanctuary for non-pet owners to be with animals.

We invite you to become a part of The Sanctuary in a way that works for YOU!

April
April is a very loving cat with a gentle personality. She is hesitant to trust new people but once she does, she is a total love bug. At the shelter April can generally be found peeking around the corner or from across the room to decide if she is going to be brave enough to seek some petting. Once she gets the courage to approach a volunteer, she is all about soaking in the love. She especially enjoys having the side of her face is scratched. April isn't quick to trust but she is quick to love once she is won over.

April will require new owners who are extremely patient and understanding. She will need much love and reassurance. April should be provided adequate time to adjust to a new home. April won't be the cat who immediately jumps in your lap. However, she deserves a wonderful home and your patience will be greatly rewarded.

April is 2 years old, healthy, spayed, vaccinated, negative for FeLV and litter trained.
