We are a Community Resource for you!

The "Sanctuary" is our concept for providing a nurturing environment for animals in need.

Our facility is home to most of our cats and dogs, although some reside in foster homes initially. This helps us to learn about their behavioral traits and make "right match" placements.

Our animals are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, treated for fleas and parasites and tested for heartworm.  This means that any animal adopted from The Sanctuary at Haafsville is ready to start a new life in your home.

We are a volunteer based organization and are very conservative financially which allows us to provide exceptional care to our resident animals.  We are funded by our ongoing fundraising efforts, donations and our partnerships.  And for all the support we receive, we do like to give back and do so through our sponsorship of a Humane Police Officer which is one of our gifts to the community.  Visit our Thank You page to see some of great organizations that have helped us in our first 9 years.

Animal Welfare Services

  • Animal Adoptions: We offer a mix of ages and breeds of cats and dogs.
  • Seniors Program: We offer flexible programs for seniors adopting animals.
  • Foster Program: Visit our FOSTER page to learn more.
  • Long-Term Stay: Sometimes, we become permanant housing for a few animals that are never adopted.  We keep those animals safe and loved.
  • Animal Safety: We provide Animal Control and Humane Police services for 17 local municipalities.
  • Shelter Partnerships: We pull animals from many high-kill shelters saving hundreds of lives.
  • Educational Opportunities: We participate and offer several programs for schools and organizations such as our PAWS program.  Visit our FAQ's to learn more.

How We Enrich Peoples' Lives

We provide services to enrich peoples' lives which include:

  • Community Service hours for volunteers.
  • Programs for Special Needs individuals.
  • Cultivate an atmosphere of gratitute and respect for Volunteers.
  • A teamwork approach so volunteers are not overwhelmed and can grow.
  • Provide a welcoming sanctuary for non-pet owners to be with animals.

We invite you to become a part of The Sanctuary in a way that works for YOU!

Loki
SPECIAL NEEDS CAT
Loki is a good boy who continues to wait for his forever home. He was rescued with over 100 other cats in the Spring. Like so many of his housemates, Loki is blind. However, you would never know it. Loki runs around, jumps on cat trees, plays with other cats and maneuvers through the shelter with ease. He enjoys chasing the broom as volunteers clean. Visitors are always surprised to learn that he is blind. Loki is still learning to trust people but does tolerate brief petting. He interacts well with other cats and can always be found snuggled with several of his feline buddies. Several of Loki's blind housemates have been adopted and they are doing splendidly.  We expect the same for Loki if someone is willing to give him the chance he deserves. Loki is about 5 years old, handsome, healthy, neutered, negative for felv/fiv and litter trained. If you are willing to open your heart and home to Loki, please contact Kathy at 610-406-7996 or
