Fostering an animal in need

Thank you for your interest in volunteering your time to become a Sanctuary at Haafsville Foster Parent! Foster homes play such an important role at our shelter, because when you foster you save 2 lives…since the animal you’re fostering frees up space at our shelter so
we can save another!

A foster home is simply a temporary safe refuge for rescued dogs and cats in order to prepare them for a new home. Foster homes are a great solution for animals who are stressed in a shelter or have special needs. Mothers with puppies or kittens and senior animals are especially vulnerable in a shelter environment and need a quiet place until the right home can be found. If you choose to foster you give these animals a second chance at life and it is truly one of the most rewarding experiences you can have!

We provide all medicine, and veterinary care for the foster animal, food and supplies if needed, and you just supply your time, energy, home and most of all LOVE!

If you are interested in fostering the following criteria must be met:

  • The primary caregiver of the foster animal must be an adult
  • If you rent we require written approval of your landlord and contact information
  • Since we have open adoptions every Saturday, it is helpful to have foster homes that are local so the animals can be brought there for our adoption events
  • It is also required that your own animals are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered

For PUPPY and/or ADULT DOG fostering, please view our Facebook page.  As puppies and adult dogs become available for fostering, a post is made with contact information.

For KITTEN and/or ADULT CAT fostering, please fill out the Feline Foster application below and someone will be in contact with you.

Snoop Hogg
Snoop Hogg was found wandering the streets of Philly and when he was brought to ACCT there was concern that he was being used as bait for dog fighting rings. After several weeks it was clear that all the pig rescues were full and even though we don't usually rescue pigs we knew we couldn’t leave him there suffering. He had severe mange and an eye issue along with some behavioral issues. We immediately took him to see Dr Wilbers where he was vaccinated, neutered and medicated for mange. We made him our office pig and worked on harness training and potty training. He is doing great on both. He loves everyone... is picky on his dog friends, but has a cat buddy that he shares the office with. He's only 6 months old and when people say "mini pig" there is really no such thing. Plan on him being close to 100 lbs. Pigs are very smart and need companionship. He loves to snuggle under his blankets at night and loves to go for long walks in the woods. Pigs are not for everyone. Know what you are getting into. Ideally he would like to be an indoor pig with a big fenced yard to play in. A pig friend would be lovely. He needs to stay at a healthy weight.... too many pigs are overfed and unhealthy and we don't want Snoop Hogg's belly to drag the ground. He has become a Volunteer favorite and we are hoping more people see pigs as friends not food!
